Taking advantage of the 30 years’ experience in business education as well as drawing from the achievements of the world leading business universities, Kozminski University has founded its own endowment fund.
The funds accumulated in the Fund will be invested and the generated profits will serve to finance strategic projects which support the development of young generations, academic staff, as well as the academic research, and the development of the University infrastructure.
Endowment fund is a specific type of investment fund where the initial corpus value is kept intact and only the profits generated from the invested capital are used to finance specific goals. Endowment funds are common among world leading universities, cultural and charitable institutions as their financial source and financial tool which facilitates long-term planning.
Financial stability is particularly important in the case of private universities which do not qualify for public grants and are therefore financed with their own generated profits (tuition, sale of courses and developmental programs, etc.). Being dependent on the day-to-day income does not allow for long-term development strategies nor for investment in pioneer research projects.
The funds contributed by the benefactors may not be spent by the University but must be invested according to the adopted safe investment strategy.
The aim is to generate long-term profits which will complement the financing of the University development.
Fund-generated profits will be allocated in the University strategic activity, such as academic research, scholarships, and development of the University infrastructure
World leading business universities successfully manage a lot of financial instruments which foster university development and help to exceed common standards on the university way to accomplish their mission and strategic plans. The endowment fund is one of these instruments – a solution by which a university may gain and accumulate financial resources, invest them to generate profits which, ultimately are allocated to strategic projects
“According to professor Grzegorz Mazurek, Rector of Kozminski University, the fundamental difference between business universities in Poland and abroad is the financing mechanism. In American universities, endowment funds and capital provided by benefactors are extremely common. For example, Harvard University manages the fund of over 50 million dollars. With a fraction of this amount in Poland, we may develop a world – class university. As a pioneer university in a variety of fields, we have decided to accomplish this goal”.
Endowment fund will let us free from other, external financial sources. It will enable us to adopt sensible long-term financial policy and to extended the horizon for strategic planning. Setting up the endowment fund came along with the constitution of the KU Development Foundation which is now entrusted with the management of this exceptionally significant fund. The Foundation cares about the security, transparency, and allocation of the generated profits to the wide-based scholarship program, development of the academic staff, running unique research projects and, expansion of the campus.
Students, university teaching staff and innovative projects.
One of the University ambitious plans is for the endowment capital to finance business education to exceptionally potential people from around the world. The University will offer the world-quality education and thus it will become the first-choice university for a lot of students.
An equally important goal that matters a lot to Kozminski University is to gain the position of the first-choice university for outstanding academic staff. Financial resources generated by the invested endowment will be designated to our scholars, researchers and associated business practitioners for their further professional development.
The offer will include visiting research scholarships at the world best universities as well as invitations extended to outstanding scholars from abroad to come on visiting contracts.
The third and last area to be financed by the profits coming from the invested endowment will be the formation of the European incubator of innovations, trends and concepts, a hub for enhanced analyses which will allow for the formation of socially responsible business of the future. This way, the University is stepping out of the common standard framework of public competitions and public grants, and so it is making way to carrying out individual research with the participation of renowned Polish and foreign scientists and researchers.
