We took part in one of the most important events in Poland dedicated to family-owned enterprises, organized by the Family Business Institute.
A particularly inspiring highlight was the case study of the Merz family, which transformed from a pharmaceutical company into a global investment family – evolving from the role of founder-operator to owner-investor.
In the panel “Governance Mechanisms in Family Businesses,” Professor Bolesław Rok represented Kozminski University – a Partner of the event, also promoting the postgraduate program “Manager in a Family Business.”
According to research by the Family Business Institute:
– only 8% of family members in Poland express a desire to take over the family business,
– and merely 30% of companies survive into the second generation.

As Carl Elsener, CEO of Victorinox, aptly noted, “being prepared makes life better,” referring to the 140-year history of the Swiss family business.
During the Congress, we spoke with leaders and advisors of family enterprises about the importance of education in building the sustainability and long-term development of family businesses across generations.
We are grateful for the inspiring conversations, exchange of experiences, and practical solutions addressing the challenges and future of family businesses in Poland.
