The Yale University endowment is the foundation of institutional stability – providing sustainable long-term funding for academic activity, financial aid, and research.
During an inspiring meeting, our student and Foundation scholarship holder, Leon Lucjan Hendigery, had the opportunity to speak with Camino de Paz Espiago, Managing Director for Global Initiatives at Yale University, about how the endowment works and the benefits it brings to the entire academic community. Learn more from his conversation with Ms. Camino de Paz!
What else is worth knowing about Yale’s endowment?
Each year, Yale aims to spend 5.25% of the endowment’s value – a prudent amount considering sustainable long-term growth projections adjusted for inflation.
The endowment covers nearly one-third of the university’s operating budget, serving as a key source of funding for student financial aid, research activities, faculty salaries, infrastructure development, and strategic projects.
It is worth noting that around 75% of the endowment consists of restricted funds, which the university is legally obliged to use only for their designated purposes.
These insights are a source of inspiration for us as we develop the Kozminski University Endowment. We believe that long-term thinking and high-impact philanthropy are key to driving real change in access to education.
We sincerely thank Leon Hendingery for representing our Foundation with such dedication on the international stage.
